Types of Combs and Hairbrushes Best For You

I’ve got a confession to make. I hate combs and hair brushes. At least for the time being I find the perfect match. There are different types of combs and brushes but not all are suitable for you.

I’ve moderately thick curly hair. An all-purpose comb stuck in my hair and pulls it. This is the problem I faced for the first 15 years of my life and only then did I discover the roller comb, the perfect one for my hair type.

If you’re like me and have a different hair type than most people then this article is just for you. Not an all-purpose comb is suitable for all; hence, you need a different one. Fortunately, there are multiple types of combs in the market and all have different purposes to take care of.

All-Purpose Comb

As the name suggests, it is the most versatile comb for almost all people. It caters well to most hair types.

Wide-Tooth Comb

It is just like the all-purpose comb but the only difference is the spacing. Its sturdy widely-spaced teeth are best for detangling. Best for dry hair and to comb after applying conditioner to your hair.

Fine-Tooth Comb

It is a thinner and less sturdy comb whose fine tooths are closely spaced. It is best for people who have thin hair type. And not suitable for thick and curly hair people.

Large Round Barrel brush

If you have frizzy hair or curly hair then this brush is just meant for you. If normal brushes and combs pull your hair then this is best for you.

Boar Bristle Brush

It is made up of synthetic materials like nylon so doesn’t cause static. It is most suitable for super thick hair. It is designed to better distribute the sebum from the roots to the tips of the hair.

Cushion Comb

The cushion brush has an air-cushioned surface which helps to absorb the static from your hair. Best suitable for dry, frizzy, tangled hair. It gives you a smooth outcome quickly. This is the reason why it is very popular and widely used by hairstylists.

Barber Comb

At first glance, it looks like any other all-purpose comb because on one end it has a fine tooth and on the other side wide-tooth. But the length of the teeth in a barber comb is a bit shorter than any other comb to make it not touch the scalp.

Detangler Comb

In long hair, the tendency to get knots and tangles is common especially when the hair is wet. The detangling comb comes with a handle that helps to hold it when hands are wet in the bathroom. The handle gives you a strong grip.

Pick Comb

A pick comb has a short handle and wider teeth. This comb is best for people with afro hair type.

Rake Comb

A rake comb has a handle and wider teeth on one end. It is very similar to a pick comb but has a horizontal handle. It works best for people with frizzy and thick hair.

Paddle Brush

A paddle brush is very similar to the boar bristle comb. But a paddle brush is a rectangular-faced and cushioned brush that works better to straighten your hair.

Rat-Tail Comb

The rat-tail comb is like any other commonly used comb but the only difference is that it has a thin tail-like handle that works as an extra finger to help you make straight parts.

Pin-Tail Comb

It is similar to rat-tail. The only difference between them is the handle. Pin-tail’s handle is long horizontal and even narrower and is made of metal. If you straighten your hair with a hair flat iron that you will find it helpful to create hair sections.

Teasing Comb

The teasing comb is the only comb that has unequal teeth that helps to add volume to the hair.
